Serving and Buying Guide

Wow! I used to be Quartermaster at the Ottawa Area Girl Guide Camp. And somewhere, sitting in my former desk there, is a list which reads something like this. I have been hoping for months now to find the time to re-write that list of food proportions for you. But now I don't have to. Many, many thanks to Donna Haggety, who put this list together and posted it to the WAGGGS-L mailing list! You have certainly saved me a lot of work!\

This list states quantities per person per meal. Multiply by numbers of campers and you will have the totals required.

Here's another neat idea to help you with your grocery planning for camp. Thanks very much to Annette Dean for the following suggestion!

Her group uses 'mini menus' to help the girls plan for camp. Make up a series of cards, one for each girl, with the entire camp menu printed inside. Next to each item on the menu leave a spot where the girl can mark in how much she wants, which brand she wants, etc. Some examples: How many hot dogs will you eat? Which breakfast cereal (of the choices given)? You can also take the little menu to camp, so that when it comes to meal time, the girls can remember what they asked for. This procedure can really help cut down on the amount of extra food which is bought, and brought home at the end of camp!
