Gorp

"Gorp" stands for "Good Old Raisins and Peanuts". It is a traditional mix taken on hikes and outings, and provides a great energy burst in the middle of physical activity. Everyone I've talked to has a different combination of ingredients which they like to include in their gorp. Here is mine:

Ingredients:

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a Ziploc bag, and shake to mix everything up. Take gorp on a hike and nibble whenever you need an energy burst!

Note: One thing I stress to my girls when they're making up their gorp is that it's important that it be at least a little big nutritious - i.e. 100% chocolate is not allowed!

Another Note: Once way back when I was a Pathfinder, we made a solid version of gorp at a winter camp - basically it was all the usual ingredients plus a hefty dollop of peanut butter. The gorp was then a solid ball which we could bite off a piece of when we were hungry. This doesn't work well in the summer because the peanut butter melts. But in the winter it was great because we didn't have to take our mittens off to eat it!

Now that you've made some gorp, why not celebrate with the Girl Scout Gorp Ceremony?
