Stew and Dumplings
Ingredients:
Directions: Soak all the dehydrated veggies and onion soup mix in water until the veggies are soft. Add a little more water and cook the stew. Add water and skim milk powder to the biscuit mix until you have a fairly compact dough, then drop in large spoonfuls into the stew. Cover the stew with a lid to help the dumplings cook. Make sure the dumplings get turned at least once to ensure they cook evenly on both sides.
Note: When I tried this recipe on a canoe trip, one member of our team had an allergy to tomatoes, and another was a vegetarian. Otherwise we could have made the stew with a tomato base, and/or used beef or chicken stock instead of the onion soup mix. The stew tasted wonderful as is, though!
