Burning Bridges

This game is immensely popular with Pathfinders...

Materials: a lantern (candle lanterns are perfect), two to three flashlights (for winter) or water guns (for summer), a whistle

To Play: This game is best played in a large area which the girls know well. Set distinctive boundaries like roads, fences and streams to outline your area. Two or three leaders go off to hide the lit lantern somewhere within the boundaries. The girls give their leaders a ten-minute head start, and then they set off in pairs to try and find the lantern. However, after hiding the lantern, the leaders hide themselves close by! When the girls find the lantern, they must stalk up to it and turn it off/blow it out. If the leaders see or hear one of the stalkers, they either peg them off with the water gun or shine the flashlight on them! A girl who has been seen must go back beyond the leader's sight and try sneaking up again. The first girl to turn off the lantern wins! When the lantern has been blown out (or you run out of time to play the game), a leader blows the whistle to call everyone back in.
