Night Eyes

Materials: black construction paper cut into cue-card sized squares, reflective tape or tinfoil, transparent Mac-Tac, thumbtacks; each girl also needs a flashlight, a pencil and a piece of paper

To Play: "Night Eyes" is a game of secret messages. So first you should come up with a secret message! For each letter of your message, make a pair of "night eyes" by taking a piece of black construction paper about the size of a cue card and taping/gluing/sticking a pair of reflective eyes onto it (using either the tinfoil or reflective tape). If you wish to use your game again, I suggest waterproofing your cards with the mac-tac. On the back of each set of night eyes, write one letter of the secret message.

In a well-wooded area, scatter the night eyes through the forest, tacking them to trees etc. After dark, send the girls out with their flashlights, pen and paper to find the night eyes and write down the letters. The first girl (or patrol of girls, depending on how you wish to play the game) to decipher the message wins! For long messages, I sometimes number the cards and then tell the girls how many pairs of eyes they are looking for (i.e. tell the girls there are 20 pairs of eyes, and then number cards 1 through 20... not necessarily in the order the letters appear in the secret message!)

Thanks to Karen, 1st Harrowsmith Brownies, for this tip!

You can also modify the Night Eyes game to go with your camp's theme. For example, on a Disney Camp, the girls have to find the 12 Disney Villains loose in the woods... e.g. Ursula the Sea Witch, Cruella DeVille and so on.
