Photo Scavenger Hunt

Thanks very much to Jennie Belanger, who posted this great idea to the Guiding Mailing List!

Divide your unit into teams of approximately 4 girls and 1 Guider. Each team is given a list of possible photos they can take, a 35mm camera and a 12-exposure roll of film (alternatively each team could be given a disposable camera). Some examples of good photo challenges include:

- Take a picture of your Guider with Ronald McDonald.
- Photograph the entire team in a phone booth.
- Take a picture of the fountain in the town square.

There should be at least 20 different photos on your list (if you're handing out 12-exposure film; if you're handing out 24-exposure film, list at least 35 photo ops). Each shot is worth a different number of points, depending on its difficulty level. This forces the team to choose which shots they want to attempt, in order to gain the greatest number of points. You can also add props to the quest, to make things more difficult. These props must be used somewhere in each picture. (Jennie's props included a yellow balloon, fake nose and glasses, fireman's hat, and a Hawaiian lei).

Set a time limit for the teams and set them loose! At the end of the hunting time you can meet at a central location (preferably one with a 1-hour photo shop!); have lunch, develop your pics, and score the teams! Be creative in handing out awards to the teams - e.g. Most Creative Use of Props, Best Overall Composition, etc.
