Brownie Promise Ceremonies

Thanks very much to Barbara Dalton, who e-mailed all these great ideas to me! Barbara found these ceremonies in the Australian Guider Magazine "Guiding in Australia".

Frogs: Each girl makes an origami frog and uses it to form a pathway leading to the pond. The pond could be a mirror decorated with flowers or you could try making a pond with blue or green jelly and frog sweets. Eating the pond afterwards makes a memorable Promise ceremony!

Trees: Girls make green leaves, drawing in the veins and punching a hole in the end. Tie the leaves together with a piece of wool and tie a few bunches of leaves to the arms of each Brownie. Facing each other, the girls form a long pathway with their arms forming an arch. The tweenies walk along the pathway of trees to their leader.

Balloons: Same idea as the trees but use yellow, blue and white balloons instead (World Flag colours).

Rainbow: Make a large cardboard arch and glue on different coloured paper to form a rainbow. Alternatively, lay stripes of crepe paper in the colours of the rainbow in a path on the floor. Tweenies start at one end of the rainbow and discover the pond at the other end instead of the pot of gold. Or, the other end could be a pot of gold in which the leader waits to take the Promise ceremony. The new brownie guide is given her own piece of gold to keep (Promise badge).
