Guide Law Candle Ceremony

Thanks once again to Wendy Baker for this ceremony!

Leader: I bring the light of Guiding to kindle the flame of love and friendship (lights floating candle in a clear glass bowl of water) I call upon all to sacrifice all that which is undesirable into the pure fire.

First Girl: I sacrifice Dishonesty. (burns a little piece of paper that says "Dishonesty" and then lights her candle from the floating candle) I take back this pure flame to help me keep the Guiding Law which challenges me to be honest and trustworthy.

Second Girl: I sacrifice "Wastefulness". (burns paper with "Wastefulness" written on it and then lights her candle from the floating candle) I take back this pure flame to help me keep the Guiding Law which challenges me to use my resources wisely.

Third Girl: I sacrifice "Disrespect". I take back this pure flame to help me keep the Guiding law which challenges me to respect myself and others.

Fourth Girl: I sacrifice "Laziness". I take back this pure flame to help me keep the Guiding Law which challenges me to recognize and use my talents and abilities.

Fifth Girl: I sacrifice "______________". I take back this pure flame to help me keep the Guiding Law which challenges me to protect our common environment.

Sixth Girl: I sacrifice "Cowardliness". I take back this pure flame to help me keep the Guiding Law which challenges me to always like with courage and strength.

Seventh Girl: I sacrifice "Unfriendliness". I take back this pure flame to help me keep the Guiding Law which challenges me to share in the sisterhood of Guiding.

Once all the candles are lit and the girls are all standing in a row they read together the following:

"We are all Guides. May God Bless us and keep forever in us this flame of love and friendship.

Sing "Whenever you make a promise" and hum it through one more time which each person blows out their candle one at a time.

Make cardboard circles that are about (size of a bread and butter plate because that it what I used for the circle). I cut a cross in the middle so that the candle will fit and then I cut a slit in the side so that the paper to be burned can be inserted in it. I then glue the saying to the top and the joint saying to the bottom so that they can read them when their candle is lit.
