Stepping Stones Advancement Ceremony
Thanks very much to Wendy Baker, who posted this ceremony to the Guiding Mailing List!
PROPS: Stepping Stones with various words written on them, suitable for each age group (some examples shown below):
As the Sparks step over the stepping stones the Spark Leader says:
- "Stepping stones are for you Sparks,
- Cross them while they sparkle.
- Your Sparks days are over now,
- Come and join our Brownie circle."
Girls now join the Brownie circle and Brown Own welcomes them with this little poem:
- "When you were just a very young girl
- You wore bright pink and your hair in a curl,
- With your Spark friends so true.
- You all learned something new,
- You bring along your happy smile
- To Brownies we welcome you awhile."
The Brownies are in the Brownie Circle and the Advancing Brownies are in the middle.
Tawny Owl says: "Now is the time to say good-bye. Break the ring and away you'll fly."
Brownies then cross over their stepping stones to Guides, and are welcomed by the Guide Leader saying:
- "When you were just young girls
- You learned through "trying" many things
- Now you are ready for new adventures
- As Guides your ideas can take wings."
Guides cross over their stepping stones to Pathfinders, and are welcomed by Pathfinder Leader saying:
- "When you were just young girls
- You learned by singing, laughing, crafting
- Now you are ready for new challenges
- As Pathfinders get ready to do a lot of laughing."
Pathfinders cross over their stepping stones to Senior Branches, and are welcomed by a Senior Branch Guider saying:
- "When you were just young girls
- You looked up to the girls in Senior Branch
- And said, wow are they ever cool,
- Make sure that you keep up the tradition and
- Don't act like a fool."
Commissioner reads to all:
- "Young girls who haven't been a Girl Guide,
- Have missed the wonders our programs provide,
- We've watched you grow and marvelled at the sight,
- Your talents and abilities are now shining bright."
We would like everyone to join us in a big Friendship Circle and sing "Taps" with us. Refreshment will be served by the girls and thank you for coming.
