Medieval District Advancement Ceremony

Wow! Thanks so much to Sarah MacLean, Port Wallace District, Marine Shore Area, for this awesome ceremony!

You need:

Ceremony:

Your crowd should be seated. The Queen and her guards enter.

Guards: All rise for her Majesty Queen (insert DC's name here), of the district of (insert District name here), in the Kingdom of (insert Area name here)!

Everyone rises. After the Queen is in place on the stage or in front of the backdrop she says:

Queen: Please be seated (though in medieval times it would likely have been please take your ease, but that might confuse people.)

Heralds: Would the (insert Brownie unit name here) please enter the court of Her Majesty. (Unit files in, girls are announced one at a time by heralds and they come up and kneel on cushion).

Queen: I herby dub you a Guide (take sword and place it on one shoulder and then the other while saying it)

(Note: This can be phrased a number of ways, so be creative! E.g., "I herby dub you a Guide", "I dub you a Guide", "I, Queen _____, of the district _______, herby declare this Brownie to be a Guide".)

Each child then rises, does Guiding Handshake and Sign with Queen, is pinned, etc., and moves on to shake unit leaders hands and such. Repeat until all girls have advanced.

Heralds: Three cheers for the newly made Guides, Vivant, Vivant, Vivant! (Or: hip hip hooray!)

Next Brownie unit is called forth by the heralds until it all are done.

Then the Queen does any leader type awards etc., Always the heralds will call them in to court and ask for cheers after.

In order to make all the participants feel a little more "medieval", you can make floral wreaths for everyone to wear beforehand:

You need:

Directions:

Take wire and form into circle to fit girl's head. This will usually will require two pieces of wire. Take two wires and twist together about one third of the way then check against kid's head size and twist other two ends together. Use pliers to make sure metal ends are not poking out.

Take florist tape and wrap a little bit around wire to secure end, then take a flower and lay the stem along wire wrap the florist tape tightly around the stem, covering the wire and stem completely. Repeat with leaves and flowers until wreath is full. Never break tape if you can help it, it's better to use one continuous piece. Make sure the tape is tight against stems and wire.

Tie two or three pieces of ribbon on back of wreath, should hang down back, usually to between shoulder blades or a little past nape of neck.
