The Colours of Guiding

Thanks very much to Wendy Baker, who posted this ceremony to the Guiding Mailing List!

For each of the colours listed below, have a card in that colour for the reader to hold up and have the words they're to say written on the back.

A leader says: Dreams come in all sorts of colours.  Colours in a dream can be interpreted only in the context of the dreamer's relationship with that colour. When Baden Powell had a dream to start a boys group to learn about outdoor skills and camping his dream did not include girls. I imagine that Baden Powell’s dream colour was a kind of khaki brown, not unlike a Boy Scout uniform. Girls wanted to be part of this group too and his dream was enlarged to include girls. Agnes BP became the dream maker for the girls. I imagine her dreams to be girl guide blue.

I am a Golden dream. Gold denotes the bright golden colour of our enrolment pins, which are shiny examples of our Promise.

I am a Blue dream. Blue denotes friendship and thoughtfulness.  It shows that you are always there for your friends.

I am an Orange dream. Orange denotes kindness and warmth. It shows that you work well with others and look out for the well-being of others.

I am a Red dream. Red denotes your sense of adventure and independence. It shows that you attempt new tasks and brave new endeavours.  You have confidence and are self-assured.

I am a White dream. White denotes integrity.  It shows that you are true to yourself and respect others.

I am a Yellow dream. Yellow denotes a sense of fair play. It shows that you are able to help out when needed or take over when that need is shown too.

I am a Green dream. Green denotes your ability to use your resources wisely.  It shows that you can manage your time, money, materials and energies wisely.

I am a Silver Dream. Silver denotes your loyalty to sisters all over the world. It shows that you are not alone.  You have sisters all over the world.

All the readers then read together:

Stars that shine together form a galaxy.
Flowers that grow together create a garden.
Buildings that stand together begin a city.
People who dream together make a difference.
This is what Guiding is all about.
