Pathfinder Enrolment
This ceremony comes from a Pathfinder Unit in Kortright District, Guelph, Ontario. I was not actually present at the ceremony but I heard about it and thought it was great. Before the new girls were presented with their pins, the Unit stood in a circle, each girl holding a candle. The candles were lit as each girl said her respective line from the following dialogue:
ALL: We are the LAW which was given to the Pathfinders by their Founder, Lord Baden-Powell. We bring the Spirit that is present at all Pathfinder gatherings. We carry the light that shines before every Pathfinder to show her the way.
GIRL 1: I am HONOUR, and I shine so that a Pathfinder may be trusted in all things great and small.
GIRL 2: I am LOYALTY, and I shine so that a Pathfinder may always be found faithful.
GIRL 3: I am USEFULNESS, and I shine so that a Pathfinder may always be found faithful.
GIRL 4: I am FRIENDLINESS, and I shine so that Pathfinders of all nations will love and care for each other.
GIRL 5: I am COURTESY, and I shine so that gentleness and respect may grow within the hearts of Pathfinders.
GIRL 6: I am KINDNESS, and I shine so that every Pathfinder may learn to care for all God's creatures and the natural environment.
GIRL 7: I am OBEDIENCE, and I shine so that self-control may be the great inner strength of every Pathfinder.
GIRL 8: I am CHEERFULNESS, and I shine so that every Pathfinder may spread the light of joy wherever she goes.
GIRL 9: I am THRIFT, and I shine so that a Pathfinder may never waste, but make the best use of her time in giving service to others.
GIRL 10: I am PURITY, and I shine so that a Pathfinder may be like light itself; clean, pure and strong, worthy of her future womanhood.
ALL: We are always her, our light glows in the heart of every campfire and shines in the eyes of every true Pathfinder.
