Spooky Spark Enrolment

Thanks to Wendy Baker, who shared this ceremony with the Guiding Mailing List. She claims no credit for writing it, but I'd still like to thank her for sharing it!

Props:

Decorations for Halloween - black, orange & white

Masks on sticks - (one for each girl) face size witch, ghost, cat, pumpkin (4 groups)

Monster Box for gifts or loot bans; cover in tin foil; cut out large mouth, make eyes, mouth, nose out of construction paper, streamers for hair (gifts for Sparks inside)

Sparks in four groups, according to masks in the 4 corners.

Leader: “It’s Halloween, It’s Halloween, Scary creatures will be seen!”

2nd year Spark leads new girls from the corner, skip in and around and back to their spot. (she has a mask as well….or all the second years)

(tune: Brownie Circle songs)

Group 1: “We are witches on our brooms, flying all around the room.”

Group 2: “Watch the cats, we are all black, we prowl around behind your back.”

Group 3: “Ghostly ghost are everywhere, flying her and flying there.”

Group 4: “We are Jack-o-Lanterns bright, we light the way on Halloween night.”

Leader 1: “Then suddenly without a sound, all the Sparks gather round.”

(Sparks and helpers sit in a ring)

“And (name a leader) comes round to survey, each little Spark who comes to play.” (Leader 2 walks around the ring)

Leader 2: “Some little girls have come to stay, Let’s see what they have to say.”

New Sparks hold hands and go in and out the ring singing:

We want to learn your magic brew,

We want to sing and play with you,

We want to live like Sparks, it’s true,

Please show us now what we must do.

(new Sparks form a circle facing out)

Leader 2: “To be a Spark, there’s one thing left to do

You must make a promise true.

Are you ready to be real Sparks?’

Sparks: Yes!

Leader 2: Then let’s say the promise together. (Promise)

And now we have a pin for you,

For now you’re Sparks, it’s true.

Reach in the monster, if you date

A special surprise is waiting there!

(New Sparks reach in and get a gift and all Sparks get a treat bag. You could finish off with a Halloween Party.)
