Scared Pepper
Materials:
- shallow baking pan
- pepper shaker
- bar of soap
Directions:
- 1) Pour in enough water to have it about an inch
deep. Let pan sit until the water is calm.
- 2) Sprinkle pepper enough to cove the entire water
surface.
- 3) Touch one corner of the bar of soap to the center
of the water, and watch what happens.
Explanation: The pepper can
float because of the water's surface tension. Soap breaks the surface tension.
When you touch the soap to the water, some dissolves into the water. When the
surface tension breaks, the pepper is pulled to the edges of the pan.
