Cookie Mining
I learned this activity from my friend Les Stubbs.
Materials (per person):
- Toothpicks
- Skewers
- Tweezers
- 2 Chocolate chip cookies
Directions:
Take one chocolate chip cookie and "mine" it to remove all the chocolate chips. Count the chips.
Look at what you have left and examine it as if it was a real mine. What damage have you done to the mine environment? Think about what you could do differently.
Take a second cookie and mine it using your new ways which are less damaging to the environment. Count the chips. Examine how you effected the environment this time.
Compare the number of chocolate chips you got the first time with those that you got the second time. Did you have to sacrifice some product in order to protect the environment?
