Exploding Egg

Materials:

1 raw egg
small pan
glass bottle with a narrow neck
strip of paper (newsprint is best)
matches/lighter

Directions:

1) Boil the egg for 10 minutes. Let cool, then peel off the shell.
2) Lightly twist the strip of paper.
3) Light the paper and drop it into the bottle.
4) Rest egg on the top of the bottle, pointy end down.
5) Wait for the explosion.
6) Clean up the mess.

Explanation: When the paper burns, it uses up some of the oxygen in the bottle. After the paper burns out, the air that is left cools and contracts, making the pressure outside the bottle higher than the air inside. As the air outside tries to get into the bottle, the egg is pushed in, causing it to explode.
