Floating Eggs

Materials:

quart jar
uncooked egg
large spoon
1 cup salt
tap water

Directions:

1) Fill the jar half-way with water. Place the egg in the water to show the girls that the egg doesn't float.
2) Remove the egg. Pour the salt into the jar, and stir it with the spoon.
3) Place the egg in the jar.

Explanation: Density is the key here. Matter only floats in liquids denser than them. The egg is denser than the tap water, so it sinks. But when you add the salt, the density of the water increases, and the egg floats.
