The Puppy Dog Song

Thanks very much to Julia Ricciardi, who sent this song to me.

I'm just a puppy dog,
A happy kind of guy.
I used to jump and bark a lot.
But sometimes I could cry.
When other dogs get biscuit treats,
And palatines and deli meats
I think that would be GREAT!
But you should see what's on my plate—

They give me sausage and custard, covered in mustard
Pizza 3 days old.
Green deli ham, with blackberry jam stuck to the side of my bowl.
I get their jelly on toast with last week's roast.
Slimy ice cream cones.
I get their pureed fruit
With an old gum boot—
At least I've got my bone!

Thanks to Ashleigh from New Zealand, who sent me this version of the song. There's a 5th verse but she couldn't remember all the words...

(First verse: slow)
I'm just a puppy dog
A happy kind of guy
I'm not a fussy dog
But sometimes I could cry
While other dogs get biscuit treats
And 'Pal' and 'Champ' and Jellymeat
I think that would be great
But You should see what's on my plate
They give me...

(2nd verse: fast)
Sausages and custard
Covered in mustard
Pizza three days old
Green deli ham with blackberry jam
Stuck to the sides of my bowl
I get their jelly on toast
And last week's roast
Slimy ice cream cones
All mixed in and slopped in a tin
I think I'll find my bone

(3rd verse: slow)
I try to wine and bark
At supermarket time
A slice of dog roll
Would be absolutely fine
But even when they buy a tin
By Wednesday there is nothing in
So I am privileged
To eat what's rescued from the fridge
They give me...

(4th verse: fast)
Sausages and custard
Covered in mustard
Pizza three days old
Green deli ham with blackberry jam
Stuck to the sides of my bowl
I get their jelly on toast
And last week's roast
Slimy ice cream cones
All mixed in and slopped in a tin
I think I'll find my bone
