Build a Bridge

Materials:

lots popsicle sticks or pasta
glue
a series of equal weights, up to several kilograms

Directions:

Challenge the girls to build the strongest bridge they can, using only popsicle sticks (or, for a more difficult task, try pasta) and glue. The bridges must span a 1m space. To make the challenge more interesting you can limit the amount of materials the girls have available. The bridges must be completely dry before testing. During the test, add the weights to the bridge one at a time, giving the bridge about 30 seconds between weights to see if it will still hold. The bridge which holds the greatest weight before collapsing wins!
