GS Birthday Campfire
Thanks very much to Tammie, an American GS Leader, who
e-mailed me this campfire plan!
Welcome to our celebration of the 86th birthday of Girl Scouting. We have a rich history of making new friends, singing around a campfire and enjoying nature. Tonight we have come together to honour that history. Will you please rise and join us in the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
Please join us in singing Whene'er You Make a Promise
We invite you to sit back and enjoy our tribute to our favorite farm animal... the pig! In a skit entitled "Hamming It Up"...
From one animal to another.. join us in singing "The Cat Came Back".
Girl Scouts have been changing the world for 86 years! Let's sing about it! Change the World
Nature is all around us and we sometimes hardly notice it. But nature has many lessons to teach us. We'd like to share a nature legend with you. It's called "The Forest and the Tiger". This legend comes from Indonesia. It is a simple, but powerful story about what can happen when we let anger and our differences push us apart. We hope it will show us how important friendships are.
Please join us in singing Make New Friends
We'd like to sing for you a new song called Juliette. It's a tribute to our founder, Juliette Gordon Low.
Before we begin our Scout's Own ceremony, we'd like to share a bit about a Scout's Own. You can have one wherever and whenever scouts are gathered. A "Scout's Own" allows us to express our selves and our ideas about lots of different things. Our Scout's Own tonight is about Nature. We ask for a reverent and quiet attitude.
Please join us in singing The Ash Grove.
We'd like to share some thoughts on nature (3 girls will read their poems)
(the rest of the girls will read their poems)
We've all made wishes for nature. Would the troop representative come forward with the troop wish sticks. (wish sticks are gathered and placed in the fire)
Join us in "I Know a Place". As we come to the end of our campfire, we'd like to thank you for coming. We hope you've enjoyed this evening at camp. At the end of each of our meetings our troop closes with taps and a friendship circle. Please join us in forming a friendship circle.
After singing Green Trees and Taps, we will cross our arms, right over left, join hands and pass the friendship squeeze. As you get the squeeze, pass it on to the next person, and put your toe into the circle. When the squeeze gets back to the first person, she will say "goodnight Girl Scouts" then we'll say all together, "GOODNIGHT GIRL SCOUTS!"

Junior Olympics Promise:
Now to honour many of the countries who participate in the Olympics:
As we go on our way we all sing: Guide Marching Song
During the time all nations are gathered together for this event, we give a song and prayer for peace: One World
Africa: Ira Congo
After visiting all these other countries, home again, we think of the things that make Canada special to us: Land of the Silver Birch
Our closing comes from Russia: Russian Vesper
Thanks to Linda Pullen for submitting this campfire plan! The theme of the campfire was "Friendship". It was used at an Enrolment Ceremony, along with the Golden Links activity.
Animal Crackers
This campfire program was designed by my friend Susan Lait, for a trip her Guide Unit took to the African Lion Safari.
Growing Together
This campfire plan was also sent to me by my friend Susan Lait... it would be ideal for an occasion such as a tree planting ceremony, a garden-themed meeting or any day spent outdoors.
